History Timeline
1880 Settlement founded on October 6, by the Canadian miners and prospectors Joe Juneau and Richard Harris, first named Harrisburg and some time later Rockwell, finally changed to Juneau in 1881.
1900 Incorporated as a city.
1906 The seat of the government was moved from Sitka to Juneau, Alaska's Capital City since that time.
1970 On July 1, merger of the City and the Borough of Juneau.
