Kansas Overprint Stamps #658 - 668 issued in 1929 and only sold for one year (overprint on regular issues #632 - 642, rotary press printing in 1926/27)
This special issue was authorized as a measure of preventing losses from post office burglaries. Approximately a year's supply was printed and issued to postmasters. The Post Office Department found it desirable to discontinue the State overprinted stamps after the initial supply was used.

	In 1912, following the admission of Arizona and New Mexico to the Union, the US Coast and Geodetic survey officially designated a point about two miles (ca. 3,219 km) northwest of the small town of Lebanon, Smith County, KS as the Geographic Center of the United States. In 1959 it became the Geographic Center of the "contiguous lower" 48 states of the nation. The coordinates are at Latitude 39° 50' N, and Longitude 98° 35' W.
