The state was named after the English Channel Island Isle of Jersey.
New Jersey is also known as "Crossroads of the Revolution"; about 300 battles
and clashes during the American War of Independence (1775 - 1783) took place on the territory of the colony.
Ocean City, Cape May County, NJ, is a world-famous seashore community and
"America's Greatest Family Resort®", while Atlantic City, Atlantic County, NJ, located on Absecon Island, with its gambling casinos and as ideas provider for the original version of the board game Monopoly, bears the nickname "America's Favorite Playground".
Furthermore Middletown, Monmouth County, NJ is the home of the
world-celebrated American cult band Bon Jovi acting since 1983.
And last but not least the world's first drive-in movie theater
was established in 1933 near Camden, Camden County, NJ. |
