"Old Faithful" is a cone geyser located in Upper Geyser Basin landscape, Yellowstone National Park, Teton County, in northwestern Wyoming. The geyser was discovered and named on September 18, 1870 by Henry D. Washburn (* 1832, † 1871), leader of the first expedition which explored in 1870 the area of what is now the Yellowstone National Park. The Yellowstone National Park is located primarily in Wyoming (Park County, Tenton County), although it also extends into Montana (Gallatin County, Park County) and Idaho (Freemont County). The park was established by the U.S. Congress on March 1, 1872. It was the first national park in the world and covers a present-day total area of 3,468 square miles (8.987 km2). The flagship of the US National Park Service is a favorite attraction to millions (3.4 millions in 2012) of visitors from all over the world each year.

	The state name may be based on the Delaware Indian word "maughwauwama", meaning "large prairie place/large plains".
